"Each student is encouraged to participate in the active corporate life of college, as it now accounts for overall evaluation as per new university regulations. The College facilitates this process by assigning to each student, a tutor/faculty advisor who will be a philosopher, friend and guide"
Introduction
The department of botany has been in the forefront of teaching and research in plant sciences. The department admits students of the B.Sc (Hons) degree in Botany. In collaboration with the departments of zoology and chemistry it imparts teaching to students of B.Sc. (programme) in Life Sciences and Applied Life Science (Environmental Sciences) courses. The department enrolls students for M.Sc. Botany as well.
The syllabi for all the courses taught by the department have been updated to include the latest developments in plant science. These syllabi cover all aspects of botany - ranging from diversity in structure, form, development and function to systematic, basic and applied aspects of cell and molecular biology, genetics, biotechnology, ecology and environment management. During the year the department organizes study trips to various places of botanical interest and modern research laboratories. The department also has a society, Bloom;, for the students, which organizes seminars and co-curricular activities through the year. The primary aim of providing quality education is being successfully fulfilled by the department. The unique feature of the department is its faculty which includes experts and active researchers from almost all areas of plant science. The faculty has published quality research work in reputed national and international journals.

Department of Botany at Ramjas College was established in 1958 . This course provides a comprehensive in-depth training / knowledge of exciting disciplines of plant sciences such as genetics, systematics, metabolism, molecular biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, cell biology, cytology, anatomy, morphology, physiology, economic botany, pathology, ecology, ethnobotany, plant-microbe interaction and archegoniate. Course work comprises class room lectures, practicals, field studies and instructional excursions. Students of the Department are actively involved in research at the undergraduate level under various Research Projects sponsored by various funding agencies. They also participate in Summer Internship Programme. The faculty members are highly qualified and well experienced professionals.
BLOOM,
The Botanical Society of Ramjas College, strives to explore deeper into the
wonders of nature, going beyond the confines of textbooks. All students of
B.Sc. (H) Botany course are members of BLOOM. The society offers its members
countless opportunities to expand their knowledge and contribute to their
overall growth. It creates a welcoming space for young minds to connect with
the real world and foster a scientific mindset. This is achieved through a
range of activities such as webinars, quizzes, presentations, debates,
workshops, field trips, outreach programs and various competitions. These
activities not only enhance students' understanding of their coursework but
also complement traditional classroom teaching.
Annually,
the society publishes its magazine ‘VASUDHA’, to bring students closer to the
subject and provide a platform for self-expression. The supportive environment
within the society cultivates teamwork, confidence, creativity, dedication,
sincerity, time management, leadership, and curiosity, bringing out the best in
each individual. BLOOM plays a pivotal role in personal and professional
development, helping individuals learn, improve, and excel.
The
society's vision is to create a space for undergraduate Botany students to
actively engage in co-curricular activities and refine their skill sets, all
while exploring potential career paths. It serves as a platform where students
and teachers can connect, interact, and grow together, striving to unlock their
full potential.

1. 1. Medicinal Plant Research Laboratory
Ramjas College is well known for the academics and research activity. It gives us immense pleasure to talk about the prestigious laboratory, the "Medicinal Plant Research Laboratory,” Medicinal Plant Research Laboratory has been operating since 2008 within the premises of Ramjas College's under the supervision of Prof. Suresh Kumar. The journey of medicinal plant laboratory start from major and minor projects funded by a variety of government funding bodies, including the DST (SERB), UGC, and DU. Under the guidance of Prof. Suresh Kumar, the Medicinal Plant Research Laboratory is the first among all the Colleges of the University of Delhi to offer Ph.D., M. Phil, and M.Sc. Dissertation from the Department of Botany at the University of Delhi. Our expeditions begins with ethnobotanical investigations in India's unexplored regions, such as Manipur, Palampur, Khajjihar, and Lansdowne. The survey yielded a total of 102 plant species, many of which are unknown, together with documentation of their traditional usage as reported by local and traditional healers in the region. In a brief, our team is investigating the medicinal plant's anti-diabetic and anti-urolithiasis properties, as well as synthesizing silver nanoparticles, chitosan nanoparticles, and a metal organic framework (ZIF-8) for targeted drug delivery. Our main focus is on the isolation and characterization of bioactive compounds found in plants that have specific therapeutic properties, as well as the development of targeted treatments for a variety of ailments. Our study has been published in prestigious publications such as Advances in Traditional Medicine (Springer),Wiley, ACS Omega, Biocatalysis and Agricultural Biotechnology (Elsevier), and F1000Research (Taylor & Francis) Journal of Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, and Medicinal Plants. Finally, we have applied a patent on the isolation of antibacterial compounds from medicinal plants.
