Introduction
The Department of Philosophy was established in the College in 1917. It has always held an esteemed place of distinction in the academic life of the College as well as the University. The department offers a range of ten papers to the different Art Courses in the College. These are courses are very popular with the students as they form the foundation of the courses. The department also organizes workshops, courses on Indian Art, visits to museum and art gallery for students to expose them to the ways in which the philosophical world view becomes an essential part of creative and cultural output. The department also has a discussion group to encourage students interaction with faculty and invited speakers. The College Library possesses some of the rarest books on Philosophy and allied disciplines; these have been carefully nurtured by generations of philosophers.
